It occupies 63.5 square kilometers, which is about 0.1% of the total territory of\u00a0Lithuania. The reservoir supports the operations of the\u00a0Kaunas Hydroelectric Power Plant. Its waters cover the Nemunas valley from the river&#8217;s\u00a0confluence\u00a0with\u00a0Str\u0117va River\u00a0to the dam, a distance of about 25 kilometers. The greatest width of the reservoir is 3.3 kilometers and its greatest depth is 22 meters.<\/p>\n<div class=\"stack stack-right\"><\/div>\n<p>The reservoir also supports the operations of 900MW\u00a0Kruonis Pumped Storage Plant, which is situated near\u00a0confluence\u00a0with\u00a0Str\u0117va River.<\/p>\n<p>In anticipation of the reservoir&#8217;s creation, 721 farms and villages were moved to various locations. The entire town of\u00a0Rum\u0161i\u0161k\u0117s\u00a0was relocated and is now an open-air ethnographic museum.<\/p>\n<p>In 1992, in order to protect the local environment and cultural heritage,\u00a0Kaunas Reservoir Regional Park\u00a0was established.
